How to use this calculator
Enter the floor area, waste allowance, the coverage per box and the price per box. The number of boxes (rounded up) and the cost are calculated.
Example
20 m² with 8% waste, boxes covering 2.2 m² at 35 each:
- Boxes = 20 × 1.08 ÷ 2.2 = 10
- Cost = 350
Measuring tips
- Split L-shaped rooms into rectangles and add the areas.
- Include closets and spaces under doors.
- Let flooring acclimatise in the room for 24–48 hours before laying.
Frequently asked questions
How much extra flooring should I buy?
About 5–10% for straight installation, more for diagonal layouts or rooms with many corners.
Where do I find the coverage per box?
On the box or product page, usually in m² or ft².
Do I need underlay?
Laminate and many vinyl floors need underlay unless it is pre-attached. Buy it for the same area.
