How to use this calculator

Enter the system size in kWp, your location’s peak sun hours and a performance ratio. Daily, monthly and yearly energy are estimated.

Formula

kWh/day = kWp × peak sun hours × performance ratio

Example

A 3 kWp system with 5 peak sun hours at 75%:

  • 11.3 kWh/day
  • 338 kWh/month
  • 4,106 kWh/year

Frequently asked questions

How much energy does a 1 kW solar system produce?

About 3–5 kWh per day in many places — roughly 1,100–1,800 kWh per year depending on location.

What are peak sun hours?

The equivalent hours of full 1,000 W/m² sunshine per day. Northern Europe has about 2–3; India, Australia and the US Southwest often 5–6.

What reduces output?

Heat, dust, shading, wiring and inverter losses. A performance ratio of 75–85% is typical.
