Steps to Distance Calculator
How to use this calculator
Enter your steps, height and weight. The calculator estimates your step length, the distance covered and calories burned. If you know your exact step length, type it in to override the estimate.
Formulas
Step length ≈ 0.414 × height
Distance = steps × step length
Calories ≈ steps × 0.00057 × weight (kg)
Worked example
10,000 steps at 175 cm and 70 kg:
- Step length = 0.414 × 175 = 72.5 cm
- Distance = 10,000 × 0.725 m = 7.25 km (4.5 miles)
- Calories ≈ 400 kcal
Measure your own step length
- Mark out 10 m (or 30 ft) on flat ground.
- Walk it at your normal pace and count the steps.
- Step length = 10 m ÷ steps.
