calculated
Type in any field to change it. Press × on a value to calculate that field instead.
How to use this calculator
Enter the bitrate in Mbps and the duration. The file size is calculated. Or enter a storage size to find the recording time.
Formula
size (bytes) = bitrate (bits/s) × seconds ÷ 8
Example
60 minutes at 20 Mbps: 20 × 3,600 ÷ 8 = 9,000 MB = 9 GB.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate video file size?
File size = bitrate × duration ÷ 8. One hour at 20 Mbps is about 9 GB.
What bitrate should I use?
Common streaming targets are about 5–8 Mbps for 1080p and 15–25 Mbps for 4K (H.264); HEVC needs roughly half.
How long can I record on a 128 GB card?
Press × on Duration and type 128 GB as the file size.
