Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Calculator (SSY)
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government savings scheme for a girl child's education and marriage, with a high, tax-free interest rate.
How to use the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana calculator
Enter the amount you will deposit each year, the interest rate (currently 8.2%) and your daughter’s age when you open the account. The calculator shows the maturity value, the total deposited, the interest and her age at maturity.
The SSY formula
Deposits are made for 15 years. The balance then grows for 6 more years without deposits until maturity at 21 years:
F = P × [((1 + r)15 − 1) ÷ r] × (1 + r) × (1 + r)6
This assumes each year’s deposit is made at the start of the financial year (by 5 April) so it earns a full year’s interest.
Worked example
₹1,50,000 a year at 8.2%:
- Deposited = 1,50,000 × 15 = ₹22,50,000
- Balance after 15 years = ₹44,75,989
- Maturity after 21 years = ₹71,82,119
- Tax-free interest = ₹49,32,119
Maturity for different deposits (8.2%)

SSY vs PPF

| Who | Girl child below 10 | Any resident individual |
| Deposits | 15 years | 15 years |
| Maturity | 21 years | 15 years (extendable) |
| Tax | EEE | EEE |
SSY pays more than PPF, so it is usually the better choice when saving for a daughter’s education or marriage.
Keep in mind
The rate can change every quarter, so the actual maturity may differ. Deposit early in the financial year to earn the most interest.
